About Orla

 

Orla is a professional singer and performer with many years of performance experience including classical, opera, musical theatre, swing, easy listening and choral work. She is available for Weddings, Funerals, Concerts & Events.

Orla is also an experienced and qualified teacher of music and performance with extensive teaching experience in secondary schools, music schools and private studios from individual and group singing lessons, all ages and standards, to pre-instrumental classes for young children.

After graduating from Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) with a BA in Applied Music, with a specialisation in Solo Performance, Orla went on to complete a Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Music Education from Trinity College, Dublin. In 2011 she completed a Masters in Music (Performace) in Dublin Institute of Technology: Conservatory of Music and Drama where she studied with Mary Brennan, then subsequently at the Advanced Performers Studio in London, and at the Royal Irish Academy of Music where she completed their Diploma in Community Music & Group Music Teaching.

As a classically trained Coloratura Soprano, Orla's first love is opera but she also enjoys performing light opera, musical theatre and sacred music. She has taken leading roles in full scale productions and opera scenes, including Operas and shows such as : The Cloak (Irish Tour), Cenerentola, Peter Grimes, Cosi fan Tutte, Cendreillon, Shelter Me From The Rain (World Premier, Aired on Lyric FM Radio), Wallace Balfe & Mr. Bunn ( World Premier), Pirates of Penzance, Madama Butterfly, The Gondoliers, Turn of the Screw, The Magic Flute, Street Scene, Mese Mariana.
Musical Theatre performances include Leading roles in : Showboat, Westside Story, Guys & Dolls, Joseph & the Techni coloured Dreamcoat & Jesus Christ Superstar. As a chorus member of Lyric Opera Productions Ireland, she has taken part in productions such as La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, The Magic Flute and The Elixir of Love.

She has worked with well known performnace professionals such as the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, Glad Productions, Theatre Royal, Lyric Opera Productions, Festival Productions Ireland, Monica Loughman Ballet Company, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Zezere Arts Festival (Portrugal), The Annual Celtic Festival (Belgium), Llangollen International Music Festival (Wales), Irish/Cultural Festival (Germany).

Orla has worked with Irish composers including Glen Austin and Adam Cullen. She premiered & recorded Glen Austin's award winning new compositions 'Night's Final Breath' and 'The Wait' as part of the Castletown House recital series, along with seminars in DIT and recorded Adam Cullen's composition 'Granite'.
